Amazing rare early Victorian locket brooch with swivel front made from 9kt gold with 15kt gold bicolor rose and yellow gold embellishments.
Made in England circa 1840s -1880s
The front of the brooch swings to the side to reveal an oval shaped beveled glass compartment. The decorative front snaps securely into place and releases with a gentle touch of the finger.
The glass locket compartment is accessed through a hinged glass panel on the reverse of the brooch.
Brooch is set with turquoise glass balls (2mm) and seed pearls (1.5mm).
Brooch measures 3 3/4" long x 1 5/8" wide x 5/8" tall. The glass locket compartment measures 1" x 1 1/4".
The brooch is in very good antique condition, showing expected signs of wear. The lower drop pendant has a small solder repair and there are spots where a hinged bail and additional dangles may have been attached originally.
Brooch weighs 28.0 grams.
Brooch is unmarked. The body tests as 9kt gold and the decorative elements as 15kt gold.
